Rass > Stone
Trade him to Ottawa already, we dont need him!
Edit:
Or trade him to Toronto for Pickard, that's about as close as possible to a 'hockey' trade as you're going to find. |

(frank), I think he's been good enough on the PP to steal Brodie's spot for sure.
Use Gio, Hanifin, Rass and potentially Valimaki on the PP and put Brodie on the PK.
Does anyone else think that if Hanifin and Hamonic don't hit it off that we should pair him with Giordano?
Brodie could still play his off-side with Hanifin and hopefully Gio can bring out the best in Hamonic. If we find out that Hamonic only looks good with Gio we could try and inflate his value and trade him in the off-season or something.
Gio Hamonic
Hanifin Brodie
Valimaki Rass
I'd like to see how this top 6 performed together. I know it sucks to have Hamonic on the top pair, but it's not like Gio can be our top pairing dman forever. If Hanifin & Brodie create some chemistry it sets us up nicely for the future IMO. |

No. Because I suspect mgmt is all in this year and next because imo a lock/walkout is virtually inevitable due to the players involved. Also BT needs to prove he can build a winning team. For that matter, Peters needs to prove himself too. So now is not the time to be planning for the future as sensible as that might be.
....we could try and inflate his value and trade him in the off-season or something.
As Todd points out nothing so far has made the goaltending issue look promising - other than hope. So, I think BT is/soon will be open to suggestions - maybe even actively looking already. In that case, any player that doesn't "fit" is likely to be trade bait before anything. Especially after the Hamilton circus.
And being all in would mean that the rookies will have a harder time than might otherwise be the case to take a spot from a veteran. |

"It's no secret the players made enormous concessions to the owners in the last two negotiations," (Donald) Fehr said in a recent interview with The Canadian Press.
Another reason to hope the Flames can put it all together this year.

How has Hanifin looked so far?
Only saw highlights from the China games, which, well, he looked like himself. Great in open ice, but lost his man in coverage in his own end.
Pretty tough to read much of anything off those games, though. |

I was at the home game against San Jose. He looked decent, but he's no Dougie Hamilton - at least not yet. |

He certainly still has lots of potential and I hope he reaches it. He's terrific in open ice right now, and when he decides to control the puck in the offensive zone he can absolutely take over a game. He just does it so infrequently, though. Hopefully he gets there. |

That's kind of the point. If the Hamonic & Hanifin pairing perform as poorly as Brodie & Hamonic did last year, we probably don't make the playoffs again. I think Giordano is the straw that stirs the drink on that top pairing. Hamilton got all the praise, but he looked terrible until he was finally paired with Gio.
IF Hamonic performs well with Gio I would go with that pairing for the year, but look at trading him in the off-season (I don't want a dman in the top 4 that can only hold his own if he is with a certain player). Trading Hamonic would free up space for Valimaki/Rass to take on a larger role next year. |

Love affair with Stone?!?! Wtf are you talking about? I would bet BT is trying to trade Stone now. - Clyde334
We shouldn't have re-signed him in the first place is what I think he was getting at. I get that he's a vet and everything, but for someone who's on the bubble he has not even been remotely noticeable out there. |

Agreed. Hell at this point bringing Robyn Regher out of retirement would be a better option for a veteran presence. I suspect Regher would have better speed... To me Valamaki and Andersson should be in the line up opening night ahead of Stone/Kulak... |
|
|

I agree valamaki and fat rass should be in the lineup before kulak and stone. But really we need depth on defence and stone fits that roll! So keep him around. |
|
|

Doesn't your table suggesting Brodie's value on the PK also suggest that Stone has some value there too? - Beergu
Yeah, he's not a bad PKer but his 5v5 numbers are awful and he's way overpaid |

Overpaid?!?! You’re losing it Todd! He’s had a couple off years but will turn it around with Gio. Just like how DH numbers got better when he played with Gio. Weird I know!

Obviously playing with Giordano helped, but it's interesting that his relative Corsi For % was positive as a pairing (over the past 4 years combined) when paired with:
Giordano, Wideman, Chara, Kulak, Morrow, Krug, Seidenberg, Brodie, and Engelland.
The only pairings he's played on that got outshot were with Jokipakka, noted possession anchor Kris Russel and Bartkowski.
In fact, during that season (Hamilton's least productive the last 4 years), Russel was a -5.5 Rel. CF% while Hamilton posted a positive 2.1 in the same measure.
Interestingly, last season Hamilton and Gio had more offensive zone starts than Defensive. |

Cant quote you, bingo, but those are good points. Adds some context as to why Brodie/Hammer got caved defensively. They were also super bad at defending the blue line.
Stoked for how well Hamilton will do for the Canes as well. Dude is gonna be way better in the Eastern Conference imo. |
